Poor’s Field forms part of the extensive Ruislip Woods National Nature Reserve. It supports one of London’s largest heathland remnants where you will find fine-leaved fescues; heath-grass and tufted hair-grass mixed with heather, dwarf gorse, petty whin and heath speedwell, as well as a host of other wildlife.

The adjoining Mad Bess Wood is allegedly named after the demented wife of an 18th century gamekeeper, who prowled the area at night looking for poachers.

The site is one of few in the Greater London area that is managed under a conservation grazing regime. The heath and woods are generally accessible via a network of paths. There are toilets at the Ruislip Lido.
